I have begun the new year reading a novel from the Sci-Fi genre. It is "I, robot" by Howard S. Smith.  I picked it up at the library thinking it was the novel the movie by the same name, starring Will Smith but a disclaimer in the front of the book states differently. The disclaimer goes on to separate this book from any of the others that go by the same name. Now, I'm even more intrigued and feel I may have to read the other books as well.

Disclaimers aside, "I, robot" is a departure from my usual reading fare. I thrive on stories about crime, drama, and spies where I become the reader-detective and try to solve the mystery. This book may prove to be such a story but with newer technology. For now, I begin a new book in the new year with new plans to read outside my box. Techno-thrillers anyone?

The same goes for running. I spent last year becoming a runner, only to retreat once the cold weather came along. I keep to a regular workout schedule using the Total Gym but now it's time to embrace the outside and embrace the cold. New Year's resolution -- to read and run beyond my safety zone. Who knows what I will learn along the way?
